Thanks to the cooperation launched between the creators of Scavengers and the company called Improbable (that helped with financing the game), the game is based on SpatialOS technology that takes all the algorithms and calculations related to the functioning of the in-game world into the could. The developers implemented into their game a complex crafting system that allows players to create pieces of equipment, most prominent ones being weapons and tools. The entire experience is enriched with the elaborate survival elements – players have to protect their characters from cold, hunger, and thirst. The last stage involves locating and defending designated areas that can be evacuated. The latter becomes useful during the next stage, when the player begins hunting down enemies (including both other players and AI-controlled opponents), completing missions, and acquiring resources. Upon starting the game (during which one can join a 4-player squad or join an already existing one), players are sent on reconnaissance missions, plan their next moves, and acquire necessary pieces of gear. Gameplay has been divided into three stages. Each one of the hundreds of enemies roaming around the map was given a unique set of features and behaviors – thus on their adventures, players are bound to encounter grand battles between the members of particular factions. The game gives at players’ disposal a vast open world designed to seem like a living ecosystem. When playing Scavengers, one observes the action from the third-person perspective (TPP). Those who managed to survive fight for their lives in the new, inhospitable world, where three feuding factions constantly fight one another – these factions include Scourge, mutated animals, Outlanders, remaining humans, and Salient, mysterious beings controlled by advanced AI. The action of Scavenger is set in a near future, when after a series of weather disasters, Earth was bound by another ice age. The game is the debut project of this particular studio.
